John Gordon, Landscape Designer

Garden Design and Consultation

Entry GardenOur portfolio includes gardens and water features of all sizes.   We’ve designed and installed landscapes with stone patios, bubbling millstones and formal ponds.  Others have included naturalistic placid ponds, hillside springs, mountain streams and waterfalls.  Our garden designs and installations have improved small areas of existing landscapes as well as larger estates.

Bubbling MillstoneOwner and Landscape Designer John Gordon is an avid ‘hands-on’ gardener with a large private garden for testing the suitability of materials and plantings in various conditions.  As a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), Gordon is committed to the highest standards of professional competence, continuing education, and helping clients to understand the values inherent in quality landscape materials and plantings.

Continuing education, as in any profession, is especially necessary for garden and landscape designers.  Gordon attends workshops in various aspects of the profession, and has taken classes in the Landscape Architecture Program at the University of Maryland.  John shares his knowledge with presentations to area garden clubs and at Brookside Gardens.

Patio with Raised PondGodon currently teaches the "Landscaping with Plants" course at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Graduate School. John has also taught at Montgomery College.  His presentations cover topics such as garden design traditions and the practicalities of water-garden design and installation.  Slide travelogue journeys to gardens around the world are a specialty – drawing on his experience as a writer and producer of documentary films. In addition to his membership in the APLD, John Gordon is a past-President of the Landscape Designers’ Group, Inc., and is a member of the Sierra Club and the Horticultural Society of Maryland.

We serve homeowners in Montgomery County, Maryland, and the Greater Washington, DC area.
